Tuesday Takeouts

7:15 to 9:15 pm

(Starts September 9, 2025)

Look. If Covid showed us one thing, it’s that staying at home all the time sucks. Online community is not real community. It’s time to get out there again and live your life, have some fun, make new friends, and engage in some friendly competition.

Welcome to curling.

Curling is a great sport for beginners. It’s not like golf where you need to spend hours at the driving range to perfect your swing. It’s not like hockey where your equipment sets you back $$$ before you even step on the ice. At curling, you can show up and we’ll provide you with all the equipment you need, and no one will make fun of you if you fall flat on your face when you deliver your rock (well ok, maybe we’ll chuckle a little).

Tuesday Takeouts is a great league. We curl from September to March, and we have a wide variety of skill levels, from brand new beginners to players with years of experience. We find a balance between good competition and having fun. Don’t have a team? Perfect! We’re the only mixed league at Port Moody that doesn’t accept pre-set teams — all teams are set at the beginning of the season by our executive, to maintain a competitive balance and to allow everyone to mix and get to know other curlers. Tuesday Takeouts is great for single curlers or couples who want to meet new people.

Ok, so what if you’re an experienced curler? “Are you guys all just a bunch of hacks?” I hear you ask. Of course not! If you’ve got experience then ours is a great league to push your skills at skip or third. We’re a teaching league where our experienced curlers pass on their knowledge and expertise to our new players. Tuesday Takeouts is the place to learn and develop your strategic understanding of the game.

And hey, if you flashed all your takeouts and hogged your rock three times, come upstairs afterwards and drown your sorrows at our lounge. Let’s face it, the real reason we’re here is to socialize and have fun. We do a Mad Hatter competition at Halloween, a Turkey Shoot and Holiday party in December, and a legendary wind-up party when the season is over, with lots of food, prizes, and more competitions.

League Fees

Our league fees are set each year by our executive. These fees include everything for the entire season: 25 weeks of curling, competitions and prizes throughout the season, a holiday party with food platters, and our fully-catered wind-up party with lots of competitions and giveaways.

League Rules

  • 1

For regular season games Hammer/choice of colour is determined by a coin flip. In the playoffs the higher positioned team gets the choice of Hammer.

  • 2

    Spares

    • a. If you cannot make your scheduled game, contact the Sparemaster as early as possible (four weeks maximum notice).
    • b. The Sparemaster will arrange all spares — no player can arrange their own spare.
  • 3
    Rescheduling and Forfeits

    • a. A team must have at least three players to play a game, two of which must be registered team members.
    • b. If more than two registered team members are away for a scheduled game, teams are encouraged to schedule a make-up game during PMCC practice ice time. The onus to reschedule the game is on the team who were unable to play on the originally scheduled date. The league will not be responsible to schedule a make-up game.
    • c. At least three players from each team must participate in the rescheduled game. A maximum of one spare may be used. The rescheduled game must be completed before the end of the current round of play.
    • d. If a make-up game cannot be completed, then the team who was unable to play on the originally scheduled date will forfeit the game. The team that was able to play the game as scheduled receives a win.
  • 4
Players arriving late (Curling Canada rules)

    1. a. A late player may join an end if they have arrived in time to throw their rocks, otherwise they must wait until the next end to participate.
    2. b. When they arrive, they may be inserted into any position in the throwing order.
    3. c. If a player has joined the game late the team may re-arrange their throwing order at the beginning of the next end.
  • 5

Your End of the game (“buzzer rule”)

    • a. Games are scheduled for 120 minutes, and teams should endeavour to play ends quickly to complete an eight-end game in that time.
    • b. A warning buzzer will sound with 20 minutes left to play (8:55pm). When the buzzer sounds, if leads or seconds are throwing (that is, the 8th rock of the end has not come to rest), complete that end and the game is over. If the 8th rock of the end has come to rest, complete that end and play one more.
    • c. Under no circumstances can you start a new end with less than 12 minutes remaining on the timing clock.
    • d. All games should be finished by 9:15pm (second buzzer). If you still have rocks left to play, each team throws a maximum of one rock (team with Hammer still throws the last rock).
